First Look Photo: Spring Birds are Back

March 29, 2017

At the close of every Winter, there are several signs that the Spring weather is here to stay.  The cardinals singing is one of them, but the next sign is the return of the Spring birds, of which the Cedar Waxwing is one of them.  I spotted this one on Sunday, on my walk home.

Photo Friday: Don’t put the camera away.

December 4, 2015

I will never understand the idea of putting the camera away as soon as all the leaves have fallen, before Winter.  Every season has something different, and beautiful, to offer to every photographer, whether amateur or professional.

If at any time you feel there is a total lack of subjects, just look closer.  The macro world has an unlimited supply of subjects.  Today’s photos show some of the detailed beauty that can be found only by getting a little closer.

These photos were taken with my Canon 7D Mark II, and edited in Adobe Lightroom.  The only exception is the squirrel, which was taken with a Canon SX610HS.

Photo Friday: Making Up for Lost Time

February 13, 2015

snowy winter

Maine is well known for getting a lot of snow every Winter.  Four, or five feet is not unheard of, and it usually starts in December, and sticks around until the Spring thaw.

This Winter we didn’t see any real snow until the very end of January, with the storm “Juno”, and it hasn’t stopped dumping on us yet.  We have over four feet on the ground currently, and another storm starts tomorrow expecting another foot and a half; all this within three weeks.

I guess you can say nature is making up for lost time.

Day 69: The Day After

March 2, 2012

The Day After

The world seems quiet

This day after the storm,

The world is white

The air is cold,

This is supposed to be

Winter’s norm.

The Winter was dry

No blanket for the ground,

The ground needed

Snow for the plants,

Now with Spring’s approach

Spring blooms will abound.

So try to have

Good thoughts of snow,

The Earth will drink

And nourish the plants,

Because of this weather

A better spring you will know.

Day 62: Family Tree

February 24, 2012

Family Tree

As I sit here

Staring at this tree,

I can’t stop thinking

Every family tree

Has a few twisted branches.

Day 26: Winter Slumber

January 19, 2012

Winter Slumber

In the Winter

When the trees are bare

And the Earth is under

A blanket of white,

Life continues under the snow,

And trees slumber

Dreaming of once again providing

Branches for children to climb

And shade for two lovers to rest.
