First Look Photo: Lady and the Vine

June 28, 2017

I don’t usually see ladybugs this early in the Summer, but I saw this one on my way home from work.  I just love the red wings, and white head.

Photo Friday: Time of the Monarchs

August 19, 2016

Every year the monarch butterflies gather in late Summer to early Fall preparing to make their journey South.  This journey is amazing.  The migration North takes three generations to make the distance while the journey South is only one generation.  This is a trip I would love to take for a magazine; to photograph the extra large monarchs in Mexico.

Today’s photograph is one of the first I’ve seen this season.  It’s a male, and it landed to rest up in the 20 mph winds it was fighting through.

Photo Friday: Now That’s a Tongue

July 8, 2016

I was on one of my photo walks, to the store, when I saw some bumble bees.  They were busy with the flowers, and I saw a great opportunity for some macro practice.  I just wanted to get a clear picture of a bumble bee on a flower, and I used a high speed burst to give me more choices of a good shot.  What I didn’t expect was to find one that gave me a good shot, and showed just how long their tongue really is.  This is why it is the shot of the week.
