Photo Friday: First Bloom

April 14, 2017

This flower is the first one I’ve seen blooming this spring.  This is another great reminder that Spring has finally arrived in Maine.

First Look Photo: Stealth Photography

January 4, 2017

I’m back from my holiday break, and I have new ideas for photo blogs, or should I say “plogs”.  Don’t judge, it works for videos.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and New Year.  I got my new 50mm lens, and someone gave me a thermal lens cup; which I always wanted, but could never justify the purchase.

Street photography has always fascinated me, mostly because I’m a nature photographer, and I get embarrassed taking a stranger’s picture.  Over the past year, I’ve learned to overcome that initial shyness, but I still want to keep it semi stealthy.  I want to do this to keep people doing what they’re doing, to keep the pictures real.  Whether they like it, or not, people change when they know a camera is pointing at them.  I will be doing a lot more street photography this year.

As a practice, I am starting with people I find on the bus.  Today’s picture was taken with my IPhone se, of a man talking to the bus driver while checking his phone.  That’s why I call this shot split focus.  Using my phone to take someone’s picture, while leaving them thinking I’m just checking my emails. I will be doing more “bus shots” as a fun project.
