Photo Friday: Cheeky Duck

December 16, 2016

Today’s photo is of a special little duck.  As I approached all the other ducks flew off.  I wanted a good shot of a duck flying, so I thought I could entice it to fly off by getting closer.  It didn’t work, so I made the best of the situation and got a nice closeup.

First Look Photo: Moving Forward

December 14, 2016

I’ve never made it a secret that my eventual goal is to be a photographer for National Geographic, however they’re not going to knock down my door with offers if they don’t know I exist, so there has to be some steps taken to get my name out there.  I will never stop with the nature photography, but I also need to get other types of photography in there, if only to teach me some valuable lessons in lighting and composition.

My first step is product photography.  It’s a good market to step into, and it could possibly serve to pay me in the end.

Today’s photo is one of those shots.  It is one of my wife’s go to products, and I thought it would be great photographed in my light tent.

Photo Friday: City Lights

December 9, 2016

In this challenge, I wanted to photograph city lights in a different way.  Most of the photographs I see has a pretty solid skyline, so I thought I would break that up with the mostly dark condos in the middle ground.  I included the condo with all the lights on to add a little balance to the overall image.

Keeping in mind these challenges are not all about the camera, this shot was taken on my little point and shoot, while on a trip to the grocery store.city-lights

First Look Photo: Vertical Landscape

December 7, 2016

This is from my photo challenge #5.  In this challenge I was to break the norm of horizontal landscapes, and shoot a vertical landscape instead.

In this shot, I love how all three elements work together to create a pattern of lines running in the same direction.  The foreground is the ducks, the water is the middle ground where there are a few ducks to add tension by breaking the pattern, and the land and the orange sky is the background.

Photo Friday: Daily Photo Challenge

December 2, 2016

The way I figure it, if I wish to maximize my photography practice, I need to come up with daily photo challenges.  For my blogs I will pick the best of the week for both days.

I started my first challenge yesterday, and one last night for challenge 2.  The second challenge was better so here it is.  In this challenge I had to do something creative with Christmas lights.  I took a wine glass I used for an earlier school assignment, and positioned the lights at a distance behind it.  I call the piece “Sparkling”.

If you have any ideas for fun photo challenges, let me know.  I will write them down.
